The Academy by MedLabs, represented by Dr. Manar Agha Al-Nimr, Chair of the Board of Directors, has announced the launch of a series of specialized training courses to support the medical laboratory sector in Gaza. This initiative is in collaboration with the Laboratories and Blood Banks Unit of the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the “Wojha” initiative in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of medical staff in Gaza and enhance their skills amid scarce resources and the destruction of infrastructure due to the ongoing war.
The first course focused on diagnostic microbiology, aiming to develop the skills of laboratory workers in diagnosing infectious diseases through practical and theoretical training, overseen by a team of specialized trainers.
The course was attended by 20 medical laboratory specialists working in Microbiology departments at various hospitals in Gaza, including Al-Wafa Hospital, Al-Shifa Hospital, Indonesian Hospital, Kamel Adwan Hospital, Al-Ahli Hospital, Friends of the Patient Hospital, Al-Sahaba Hospital, Public Service Hospital, Nasser Hospital, and European Hospital. Despite the ongoing humanitarian challenges, the training was conducted via “Zoom” platform.
The training included lectures for doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, covering topics such as the classification of bacteria causing infections, modern laboratory diagnostic techniques, wound management, sampling methods, antibiotic selection based on bacterial culture results, and quality standards in diagnostic microbiology laboratories. The training was led by experts, including Dr. Laila Al-Khatib, Dr. Abdullah Nassar, Dr. Mohamed Azam, Dr. Mohamed Al-Tarawna, Mr. Murad Basha, and Nurse Mahasen Hyasat.
The academy expressed its gratitude to all participating trainers, with special recognition to Dr. Othman Al-Samadi, representative of the “Wojha” initiative, Dr. Sahar Ghanem, acting director of the Laboratories and Blood Banks Unit in Gaza, Dr. Ali Al-Saudi, general director of the Saudi Hospital, and Ms. Zeina Shalbak, the Academy manager. Dr. Manar Agha Al-Nimr emphasized the academy’s commitment to continue supporting and training medical staff in Gaza, noting that these activities will continue to cover additional laboratory specialties to improve the quality of healthcare services under the challenging circumstances.
